5.3 liter, all aluminum V8. Part of the LS or Gen III and Gen IV family of small block Chevy engines.
Officially called an LH6. Removed from a 2005 GMC Envoy, same vehicle as a Chevy Trailblazer.
Unique features:
Aluminum block and heads. Most pickups and many SUV’s with the 5.3 engine have cast iron blocks and aluminum heads.
Displacement on Demand. At cruising speeds with light throttle, the engine shuts down 4 cylinders by disabling the valve lifters and shutting off the fuel injectors and coils for those cylinders.
Drive by Wire. Instead of a mechanical cable connecting the accelerator pedal and throttle body, there is a position sensor at the pedal which sends a signal to the engine control module (ECM) which then sends a signal to a stepper motor at the throttle body.
Transmission:
4L60E which means “4-speed, longitudinal mounting, 60=torque rating, E stands for “electronic” controlled. Removed from 2002 Silverado pickup.
